Where to stay in Kurokawa Onsen
Yumotoso Ryokan 旅館湯本荘: Rooms with a toilet and sink but no private bath? Don't be afraid about that: Every morning or whenever you like you dress with your Yukata and go downstairs to your private bath or to the mens or womens outdoor bath, where you enjoy the hotspring experience together with other people. And where you get a shower, because you have to clean yourself before you enter the bath. Also worth a try: the delicacies served for breakfast and dinner, a pleasure not only for your eyes. Service by very nice staff is amazing, the futon beds are comfortable and the rooms have river views. The reviews on tripadvisor.com show: this centrally located ryokan with 13 rooms is one of the best you can find, the prizes are moderate.

Just up a mountain street you can reach Hirano-ku Observatory 平野台高原展望所.
Twenty minutes outside of Kurokawa Onsen, on the edge of the town of Oguni, is Soba Kaido road, nicknamed for the noodle shops positioned every hundred meters or so alongside its course. You may stop at Kagoan, a 100-year-old farmhouse that has been refurbished as a soba restaurant, near Baba River.
